Last week, bee_eye posted Lament, For Cocoa in honour of the birthday of its author, John Updike, and the fact he is still alive. My response is to butcher the living with the below doggerel. Enjoy (or not).
Lament, for Cuckoo
My bum has scum.
The cuckoo is bold.
He drinks my rum,
And I don't scold.
He hops in rage
Since all I've got
Is cheese--old, beige,
gooey as snot--
Snot too sticky
To be flicked off
And too stinky
To risk a waft.
Too tired to chase
Mister cuckoo,
I'd rather race
to the next brew.
Oh darn, he dies,
Rigid and still.
Why did he fly
Into my swill?
So bothersome.
He's gone for good.
Me and my bum
Should have stood. |

tedprior just posted the complete comic I scripted for him. He's really done a nice job on it (nicer than it deserves methinks). It's posted HERE. Hopefully, we will repeat this Australia-Hawaii collaboration in the not too distant future. |

I am not convinced my script was terribly good (haven't had really any experience scripting more than a handful of panels at a time), but tedprior has done a bang-up job on it from what I've seen so far. If there is any eventual dissatisfaction friends, it lies with me. The first installment he posted is HERE. |

So it looks like at least there will be more submissions than promos, which means I won't have to dab bee_eye's tear-streaked face come NY's morn. We would dearly love to have many more entries make their way into the round though. Poor bee_eye ran out of gas illustrating promos after number 10, and my arm got pretty tired cracking the whip, so if you weren't featured in one, please don't take offense, we do earnestly want to see a comic from you.
